Learning country guitar for free lesson one
65
In order to learn to play guitar you need to know the basics of music theory.
There are seven major chords in music.
A B C D E F G A B C D E F G
It is just like the ABCs you learned when learning the alphabet, after you get to the 7th chord it starts over again at the A and continues through the G chord.
Most country songs use the 1,4,5 major chords.
If the song is in the key of G.
G is the one chord - C is the 4 chord and D is the 5 chord. I know you are thinking how is that? it is very simple whatever key you are in is always the one chord, so if the song is in G, G is the one chord & remember that I said after you get to the last chord or the G chords it starts over at the A.
So you simply count A is the 2 chord, B is the 3 chord, C is the 4 chord and D is the 5 chord.
Lets do a example in the key of C
C is the one chord because whatever key your are in is always the one chord.
F is the four chord and G is the 5 chord.
C=1 D=2 E=3 F=4 G=5
You need to learn the 1-4-5 chords of all 7 major keys.
I recommend buying a guitar chord book that shows you how to make all the major and minor chords.
In the next lesson I will cover the off chords or the minor chords for all 7 major chords.
If you have any questions or please feel free to email me.
I want to teach anyone who wants to learn how to play the guitar and I can promise you that if you want to play you can learn how to do it.
It will take practice and patience.
Below are some standard Chord books that I recommend anyone who wants to learn to play any style of guitar to buy.
I have included a video that shows you all the 7 major chords and how to make them on guitar.
You can also tune your guitar because the video also tells you the name of all the strings and allows you to tune your guitar to it.
Please bookmark this page, and practice making the 1,4,5 chord of all the major keys.
You cannot learn the guitar over night, remember that it takes time to learn the basics and practice is very important in learning to play guitar,so as a goal for yourself, I want you to learn all 7 major chords.
Also learn the 1,4,5 chord of all 7 keys.
it is as simple as counting or doing your ABCs refer to the lesson above.
Thanks for stopping by - I look forward to hearing from you all in the comments below.
If you have any questions or do not understand anything just email me and I try to help you understand it better.

Reading your hub made me miss my Momma's guitar. I self-taught myself with her spanish guitar and the book she had with it. I was never able to play bar chords, with the difficulty of the reach. Loved this hub, as I found it useful and interesting. Someday I hope to own a guitar of my own. :D
I just love this. I play guitar but I don't know all my chord. This is very handy! EADGBE...i remember it as every adult dog growls bark eat. Sometime I remember, every adult dig grease between ear. lol...I vote up and useful!
Outstanding introduction to basic chords and song/chord structures, Sir.
I so want to learn to play the guitar like Keith Urban or Brad Paisley BUT I know I need baby steps because I'm clueless with the strumming of the strings. Thanks for the beginners lesson Manthy! :)
I used to play the piano, recorder and accordian but never the Guitar.
